Described as an outrageous farce, our next play is Seeing Other People Productions’ Gayface at Perth Theatre @ TheSpace on North Bridge, at 16:05 on Tuesday 21st. This is what the blurb says: “Everything in Hal’s life is looking up. He was just cast as the lead in a new play with a well-known director, a friendly co-star and a hot gay playwright. Only one problem – they all think he’s straight. Can he keep up the ruse? Chet Wilson’s newest play takes a hard look at the hairy underbelly of theatre, body acceptance and the politics of Gayface.”
Seeing Other People Productions is a new company based in Portland, Oregon, and this play is based on Chet Wilson’s own experiences of the casting process and issues of body acceptance. This sounds like just the kind of play the Edinburgh Fringe was made for. Check back around 5pm to see what we thought of it. By then the next preview blog should be available to read too.
Absolutely brilliantly written play, extremely funny and terrifically performed. Really makes you think about the part sexuality plays in both the casting process and the acting process. Highly recommended.
